What is on the Esthetician Test?

Written Examination
The written part is a 90-minute, multiple-choice exam taken on a computer. It covers two main areas:

Scientific Concepts (55%):

  • Infection control procedures

  • Microbiology

  • Human anatomy and physiology

  • Skin disorders and diseases

  • Basic chemistry related to cosmetic products

Skin Care and Services (45%):

  • Client consultation and documentation

  • Skin analysis

  • Cleansing, steaming, exfoliation procedures

  • Massage movements and effects

  • Makeup application techniques

  • Use of electrical equipment for skin services, such as microcurrents and LED therapy​

Practical Examination
The practical exam involves demonstrating various esthetician tasks within a set timeframe. Key activities include:

  • Work Area and Client Preparation: Setting up your work area safely and covering the client with a drape.

  • Cleansing the Face: Removing makeup and applying toner or astringent.

  • Exfoliating the Face: Using products and steam towels appropriately.

  • Massaging the Face: Demonstrating massage movements like effleurage and petrissage.

  • Hair Removal: Using tweezing and simulated soft wax for eyebrow hair removal.

  • Facial Mask and Conclusion: Applying and removing a mask, then using toner/astringent and moisturizer.

  • Facial Makeup: Applying foundation, powder, and eye makeup​
